[A pause, as she wildly misinterprets why Sheila thinks she might be upset.]

Well, I guess it's not the most elegant way to fight back... And it wasn't a pleasant feeling to experience, I'll say that much! But it's not like you had a weapon there at the ready, either. Ahh, it's a shame, but sometimes you have to do the best with what you have.

I already said I thought he deserved worse, so... What else would bother me?

Maybe most people here, but—

[She frowns, glancing towards Sheila, but the glance is enough to send them straight into another memory.

You're in a field, wide and open. There are a multitude of other people (several hundred, by your rough count) standing in this same field, but nobody is moving just yet; it seems like everyone is waiting for something instead, tense and ready for some kind of conflict. The reason why becomes clear when a voice sounds from a cube that floats in the air.

"Good morning, Regulars! Your first test is a simple one."

As you watch the cube expectantly, holding onto your weapon, a timer appears on the cube. 30:00, it reads.

"Just survive until this timer reaches zero! Easy enough, right? You can use whatever means you want to do that. So... Good luck!"

You understand, as does everyone on that field, exactly what the implication there is. Deep down, somewhere that's been buried inside you for hundreds of years, there's a flicker of dissatisfaction, of unhappiness - but as the timer ticks down to 29:59, it doesn't stop you, nor any of the others. Everyone starts to move at once.

In the battle that ensues, some of them come towards you, and you attack some of them first. It doesn't change the outcome for a single person on that field. You're fast and you're strong, and none of the fights you get into last long. It's a little too easy, honestly - you wonder if the test administrator knows who you are, knows the kind of strength you've been given. Regardless, as the fights go on, you feel nothing. You force yourself to feel nothing even as the blood soaks more and more of the field, as more and more bodies find their way onto the ground.

There are seconds left on the clock when you find the last two remaining survivors, raising your needle to a blonde girl around your size - but before the tip can meet its mark, the cube emits an alarm. The three of you turn your head as you hear the same voice from before speaking, sounding notably more panicked.

"S-Stop! The test is over! You three are the victors, and you can pass to the next floor as a team!"

You can tell from the alarm in that voice that he expected more people to live. He didn't know what you were capable of. Still, you stand down immediately, and the memory ends.

As it fades away, she freezes.]

[She's hesitating for a moment even after the memory ends, waiting to see what that shock is going to fade away to reveal, but when it lingers...]

...Yes. That's what I'm used to.

[A beat, before, as gently as she can possibly put this:]

All of us were there by choice.
fisherwoman: (until tuesday!)

Maybe for you...

[respect her cultural differences, sheila?? (do not.)]

But it's just a part of my home.

[Shrugging! Much too casual about this, probably, but.]

We're from very different places, I'm guessing?
fisherwoman: (i am not afraid to die!)

[???]

What? Why would they send you to jail for defending yourself?

What a stupid law! You should just ignore it.

[she says, like it's just that easy...]

Law enforcement...?

[Oh No]

Like, a member of the guard?

[After a long moment:]

Were you going to explain, or...
